RODALE NEWS, EMMAUS, PA—Solve global warming, or just sit and hope to wait it out? According to the new book by former Vice President Al Gore, Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis (Rodale, 2009), it's, well…our choice. Yet it isn't always obvious how the choices we make on a daily basis, even those seemingly unrelated to climate changeThe term 'climate change' is sometimes used to refer to all forms of climatic inconsistency, but because the Earth's climate is never static, the term is more properly used to imply a significant change from one climatic condition to another. In some cases, 'climate change' has been used synonymously with the term, 'global warming'; scientists however, tend to use the term in the wider sense to also include natural changes in climate., impact the environment, and solutions can sometimes introduce yet more problems if not carefully considered. A follow-up to the wake-up call of An Inconvenient Truth (Rodale, 2006), Our Choice is a collection of what Gore considers the most effective solutions to stop the ill effects of global warming.

Here are five things Gore's new book can teach you about global warming, and how you can help solve the problem:

#1: Wind farms aren't as bad for birds as you think. One of the biggest complaints about windmills and wind power is that they pose a threat to migrating birds. While windmills are responsible for about 28,500 bird deaths annually, cats are responsible for 100 million, power lines 130 million, and tall buildings 550 million. Pesticides and automobiles kill another 67 million and 80 million, respectively.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Keep your house cats inside the house to protect bird species, and use organic lawn care to avoid hazardous herbicides and insecticides, and to foster a welcoming habitat where migrating birds can rest. Then, call your utility company and ask to purchase wind power.

Al Gore

Stop sending me e-mails. I don't care to hear what Saint Gore thinks about anything, much less promos for his book

bad bulbs

dont anyone ever use new bulbs they are trying to sell everyone, when they blow up it says you have to stay outside your home 2 hours before you can come back in a nd breathe that crap thats in them.if they save energy but are not safe to even bring inside your house forget em,use old bulbs that last a long time and put out decent light too.

climate change

Climate changeThe term 'climate change' is sometimes used to refer to all forms of climatic inconsistency, but because the Earth's climate is never static, the term is more properly used to imply a significant change from one climatic condition to another. In some cases, 'climate change' has been used synonymously with the term, 'global warming'; scientists however, tend to use the term in the wider sense to also include natural changes in climate. has been a constant for over 4 billion years. Adapt or die!

What a Hypocrit!

How can anyone with any common sense believe the crap that Al Gore puts out whenever he stands to be a billionaire on the Obama "stimulus" money flowing his way to feather his "green machine"....Thank God that AL was NOT President on 9/11. We'd be in a bigger mess than we are now with the current Obamanation.

GLOBAL WARMING

we are not in a mess fool maybe you are but not everyone you better listen to al because he knows what he is talkin about and not you fool and you need to listen to obama he is number 111111....

Global warming is caused by the SUN

I prefer to get read Climatologists and scientific data regarding global warming, and definitely NOT Mr Gore's book. Over 30,000 climatologists agree that the sun is the cause. GreenPeace have also conceded that the ice caps melt in summer and expand in winter. All part of the earths natural cycle.

Mr Gore is part of the Global Elite who want to use global warming as an excuse to tax carbon emissions. (by the way by breathing you contribute to carbon emissions!) They will not use the TAX to help the environment, but rather to impose more regulation on our lives. They control the media, they are the shadow government of the NWO. Switch off your TV propaganda machine.

I suggest to eliminate the military, they are the biggest polluters of our well being and the environment.

Climate Science

So who are these 30,000 "scientists" who signed on to the climate changeThe term 'climate change' is sometimes used to refer to all forms of climatic inconsistency, but because the Earth's climate is never static, the term is more properly used to imply a significant change from one climatic condition to another. In some cases, 'climate change' has been used synonymously with the term, 'global warming'; scientists however, tend to use the term in the wider sense to also include natural changes in climate. skeptic petition alluded to above? According to one analysis, only about .5 percent of those who signed the petition are actually have a background in a relevant field like climatology or atmospheric science. Around 10 percent have a background in medical science - which has nothing to do with the scientific study of climate change.

"GreenPeace have also conceded that the ice caps melt in summer and expand in winter. All part of the earths natural cycle." No scientist questions that ice melts in the summer and expands in the winter. This is common sense and no research that did not account for it would be taken seriously. In fact, climate researchers have taken this fact into account and still concluded that the arctic ice cap is shrinking rapidly.

Al Gore's Global Warming

Populist elitist king Al Gore's sprawling estate uses much more energy and puts out more CO2 than George Bush's ranch in Crawford, TX, which recycles water and practices sound energy habits across the board. Minus the hypocracy. The Crawford ranch house is a humble place compared to Al Gore's royal palace in Tennessee.

Al Gore's Carbon Footprint is Irrelevant

Okay, so what does that have to do with anything?

We need to reduce our use of fossil fuels across the board by investing in clean energy - at the same time creating millions of new green jobs. Innovation has always made this country great - its time to get back to that theme.

Taken in context, Al Gore's carbon footprintThe amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses that an individual is directly and indirectly responsible for emitting, or that¹s produced by manufacturing and/or using a product. Carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gasses promote global warming by trapping heat and warming the surface of the earth.. It is also offset by the fact that much of his carbon footprint is the result of travels around the world promoting solutions to the climate crisis.

Typo

That is supposed to say "Taken in a global or event national context, Al Gore's carbon footprintThe amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses that an individual is directly and indirectly responsible for emitting, or that¹s produced by manufacturing and/or using a product. Carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gasses promote global warming by trapping heat and warming the surface of the earth. is miniscule."

Crock

Frustrating. Although I am all about energy conservation and have even replaced all of my light bulbs with CFLs (oh no, now I'm going to die of mercury poisoning) this whole global warming thing is bunk. Proven when Al Gore came up with the tax credits- a liberal method to increase taxes under a guise. I also find it interesting that this article actually mentions the benefits of animal manure as fertilizer. One issue opponents make about CAFOs (Confined Animal Feeding Operations) is the manure and spreading it as a controlled fertilizer. It's unfortunate, even if Al Gore did have an intelligent thought to share, anyone who is not one of his misguided disciples would not trust him enough to believe it.

Global warming

OOOOh, touched some nerves? I agree with the scientists and Al Gore. I am Canadian, and here we have Dr. David Suzuki, who for about 40 years has been sounding the alarm about our mis-use of our planet. Have all of you also forgotten Rachel Carson and "Silent Spring"? Yes, there is global warming caused by humans, and it is an absolute threat to our environment and our existance. I would rather make changes in my lifestyle by using compact florescent lights, buying energy efficient products, turning off lights, appliances, etc when not in use and eating organic, etc. In the long run we all win - we don't pollute as much, lower greenhouse emissions and best of all SAVE MONEY!!!Now, doesn't everyone want to do that?

Save $...I think NOT

Are you kidding? This EPA bandwagon has stripped the US of more jobs than any other legislation in our country's history! The lights will be turning off, because we will be too broke because we have no jobs and Al Gore will STILL be in his 24 room mansion with every light on! The weather cycles from hot to cold to warm....Sometimes we have hurricanes and some years we don't....But this Democratic made fiction of Global Warming and the US's responsibility for it is sickening. Look to the pollution in many countries. Have you ever been to China? The Democrats are more than willing to import their products, but not let us produce the same under the same conditions....We have to have a higher standard that makes it impossible to compete...OOOH, yes you have hit a nerve.

Al Gore is a hypocrite

This is ridiculous! Al Gore is such a hypocrite when it comes to being eco-friendly.

John, you need to do some research on your sources. Many have changed their minds and been proved false.

Barry is wrong...

And if the Barry's of the world win this debate, we all die (and I guess Barry will be dead wrong). We have one home that is uniquely suited to our existence and we have 20-plus years of hard scientific research and supporting evidence that we have so polluted the atmosphere that we are now on course for wrecking the planet--making it inhospitable for human life.

Wake up and read an honest-to-God scientific report, Barry. Turn off Fox for a day, look up the UN report on Climate ChangeThe term 'climate change' is sometimes used to refer to all forms of climatic inconsistency, but because the Earth's climate is never static, the term is more properly used to imply a significant change from one climatic condition to another. In some cases, 'climate change' has been used synonymously with the term, 'global warming'; scientists however, tend to use the term in the wider sense to also include natural changes in climate. and open your mind just a bit.

A bunch of crap

How about if Al downsizes his mansions to be more energy efficient and reduces his caloric intake. What a bunch of crap to have self proclaimed scientists tell the masses how we should live when they dont follow any of their own advice. Almost as bad as Congress providing government run healthcare for the public but not for themselves.

global warming

There have been numerous cycles of ice ages and warmer periods thru our planets geological past before the industrial revolution. Mankind made no impact on the climate then and now
does not make enough of a difference to matter.
