You wouldn't do this. But even if you had that beer six hours before driving, you'd be taking a risk.
RODALE NEWS, EMMAUS, PA—According to the group Mothers Against Drunk Driving, about 3 in every 10 Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related car crash at some time in their lives. You may assume you’ll never be one of them, but a new of the relationship between alcohol and driving proves that even if you drink minimally, you’re putting yourself and others at risk of a crash if you get behind the wheel.
THE DETAILS: Italian researchers interviewed 326 patients treated in the emergency room at the Hospital of Udine in Italy following automobile accidents, asking each one about his or her hourly patterns of drinking alcohol and driving, 6 to 18 hours prior to their accidents. The researchers then compared the participants’ activities prior to crashing with their activities prior to driving without mishap. What they found was startling: Drinking just one to two drinks—with or without a meal—within six hours of driving more than doubled the risk of getting into an accident. In fact, it increased the risk of crashing 217 percent. The researchers defined 1 drink as the alcohol content in one small glass of wine, one can of lager beer, or about 1 ounce of hard alcohol.
WHAT IT MEANS: While it's no longer socially acceptable to drive while intoxicated, this study of alcohol and driving suggests that there is no safe limit to drinking when you drive. In fact, while it’s legal in the U.S. to drive with a blood alcohol content of .07 or lower (meaning, it is legal to drink minimally and drive), in many countries the legal limit is zero, the researchers point out. “Our findings show that this policy is scientifically correct and not fanatical,” says lead study author Stefano Di Bartolomeo, M.D., Ph.D., of the Regional Agency of Health of Friuli Venezia Giulia in Italy. “[People who like wine and beer] should understand, there is no hysteria or prohibitionism behind strict ‘alcohol and drive rules,’” he has said, just “sound scientific evidence.”
In other words, the true meaning of "drink responsibly" is: If you're going to drive, avoid alcohol entirely. “If you want to lower to zero both your risk of having a crash because of alcohol, and your risk of getting caught and fined by police, you should not drink at all if you intend to drive within six hours of drinking,” says Dr. Di Bartolomeo.

Self Reporting
I have a question about the methodology in the study. Self report, especially after an accident, would probably be very suspect. It is a dirty little secret of research that self report is not very valid unless the researchers use triggering, etc. so view the conclusions with the appropriate skepticism.
