RODALE NEWS, EMMAUS, PA—The makers of children's Tylenol voluntarily recalled Tylenol infant and children cold formulas Thursday, due to possible bacterial contamination.

THE DETAILS: McNeil Consumer Healthcare, the makers of Tylenol, is recalling Children’s and Infants’ Tylenol liquid products manufactured between April 2008 and June 2008. According to Tylenol’s website, the finished products met internal testing, but an unused portion of one of the inactive ingredients tested positive for a type of bacteria that can cause respiratory illness and is often resistant to antibiotics. In McNeil Consumer Healthcare's letter to physicians regarding the Tylenol recall, the company detailed that a gram-negative bacterium, Burkholderia cepacia (B. cepacia), was detected.
