health effects of air pollution

Dirty Air Could Make Your Skin Crawl

It’s not just asthma and heart disease: Air pollution harms your health in less noticeable ways, too.

Pay attention to air-quality forecasts, and protect yourself when pollution levels are high.

Something in the air? Study suggests that air pollution can make your skin itchy.

05-18-09 RODALE NEWS, EMMAUS, PA—The next time you develop a strange skin rash, don’t automatically blame it on the guy at the gym who used the treadmill before you did. It may have come from a less-obvious source, like the air. A new study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology has found a link between certain types of pollution and itchy skin, irritated eyes, and headaches.

THE DETAILS: French researchers analyzed the air’s levels of nitrogen dioxide, small particulate matter, and ozone in urban areas around Bordeaux, an area of France with pollution levels that are often slightly higher than what the World Health Organization considers safe. They then gathered medical case reports from SOS Medicins, a public health-care network that makes emergency house calls, focusing on the number of visits related to complaints of respiratory problems (such as tonsillitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, asthma, bronchitis, or cough). conjunctivitis, skin rash, headaches, and asthenia (a condition defined by general feelings of weakness usually triggered by allergies).

This is a very informative

This is a very informative article, thanks for sharing. I sleep with my bedroom window open, and notice two things, 1. That dust and film gets all over my dresser and everything in the bedroom, and two, sometimes I feel like my room is stuffy and the air is not as clean. There is a CPAP store I purchased quality cpap masks that help me sleep and breathe easy. Does anyone know of any good filters that help filter the air if fresh air is coming in?

Great post! I know that air pollution

Great post! I know that air pollution causes respiratory problems, that is why I use CPAP masks on certain days to sleep, but I never knew it could affect the skin as well. However, for people who work outdoors, are there other methods to protect your skin other than staying indoors? Would applying a moisturizer help?

Air pollution is a huge

Air pollution is a huge problem and needs to be taken care of. Getting skin crawl is definitely not good. If you are experiencing headaches, the skin itching and so on, I would recommend you to go to the nearest doctor’s office or hospital for a checkup. Anyways, thank you sharing some useful information.

The quality of air in our times

The quality of air in our times is worse than what our forefathers have been through and I reckon it will only get worse with all the technology advancements and natural calamities affecting and contaminating the air we breathe.
