7 Secrets for Surviving Holiday Road Trips

Here's a little holiday travel advice for you: Don't neglect your health!

Turkey? Check. Cell phone? Got it. Vacation exercise plan? Huh? Back-saving packing strategy? Nope.

No matter how well prepared you think you are for your holiday trips, there's usually one thing you've undoubtedly neglected to think about: you. And your car. And your overall mental health. It's easy for those things to get lost in all the menu planning and trip preparations, but forget them, and you'll come back after the holiday feeling frazzled, stressed, and possibly injured. Take these seven pieces of advice, and hopefully that won't happen. Hey, you might even wind up with a little extra change in your pocket!

#1: Pack for your back—the night before.

Loading up your luggage the morning of the day you leave could be a pain in your back. Fluids pool in your spinal disks while you sleep, and that makes your lower back tight and sensitive to irritation when you first wake up. Pack the car the night before and you may need fewer painkillers as you drive. Another simple but important bit of holiday travel advice: Tilt the rearview mirror up a bit so you won't slouch while driving. Your spine will appreciate it.

Traveling with your family

Traveling with your family can be so much fun. I remember when we stayed at Orlando Florida hotels. The kids wanted to go somewhere so they can swim. Florida seems like a nice choice to do so. Another piece of advice that I would like to offer: try to keep your luggage as light as possible. No need to pack the whole house and take it with you. It happened often for me and my husband to realize that we have things that are useless right now on this trip.

I cannot agree more with taking breaks

I cannot agree more with taking breaks, particularly if you are traveling with pets. Pets also require road safety and there are many products out there you can use to secure your pet while on the road. In summer, take more frequent breaks and make sure your car has plenty of air and ventilation for your furry friend.
