Barbara O’Dair is editor in chief of Prevention, the world’s most established healthy lifestyle brand. In this role, she oversees and directs content across all Prevention platforms, including the magazine’s editorial, digital, and mobile presences. O’Dair brings 12 years of cross-platform edition experience to the company’s flagship brand, taking the helm as Prevention ushers in its new ad-free business model and editorial vision.
Prior to joining Prevention, O’Dair was executive editor of Reader’s Digest, where she served as the editorial lead for the brand’s digital products, including apps and e-books, and oversaw print content partnerships. Under her guidance, the team won a 2009 ASME Award for General Excellence. Previously, she held a number of key editorial positions, including executive editor of More, editor in chief of Us magazine (1994–1998), executive editor of Details (1998–1999) and Harper’s Bazaar (1999–2000), editor in chief at Teen People (2001–2003) and editor, Time Inc. Interactive (2003–2004). She also edited The Rolling Stone Book of Women in Rock.
O’Dair received her BA in American Studies from Barnard College. She also holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Warren Wilson College. She is based at Rodale Inc.’s headquarters in Emmaus, Pennsylvania.
