Gail Gonzales is vice president and publisher for Rodale Books. In this role, she oversees Rodale’s trade publishing book operations, including editorial, marketing, and distribution channels. She will also collaborate with the company’s portfolio of world-class lifestyle brands, such as Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Prevention, Runner’s World, Rodale’s Organic Life, and Bicycling, to translate their message and vision into successful books. Gonzales also oversees Rodale Wellness, a content, community, and commerce site where visitors can find inspiration, life-changing products (including DVDs, e-courses, and more), and access to the world’s best wellness influencers.
Gonzales joined Rodale Inc. in May 2015 as VP and associate publisher, Trade Books, where she oversaw the sales and marketing departments and was instrumental in further developing the Rodale publishing program, spearheading new products and initiatives with current and prospective authors and brands. She successfully cultivated synergy with Rodale’s other lifestyle brands, integrated marketing team, and direct-to-consumer books groups while managing the company’s relationship with Macmillan, which distributes Rodale Books.
Prior to joining Rodale, Gonzales was director of integrated marketing at Simon & Schuster, where she worked across the company on various experiential initiatives, including the creation and launch of SimonSays, S&S’s online learning courses, and the production of on-air broadcast and streamed audio and video programming. She was also instrumental in driving contemporary book marketing concepts, such as launching thematic large-scale non-bookstore author events and web-based live events; creating new opportunities for branding and alternative revenue streams; and cultivating outside partnerships with parent company CBS, and other entities, to create unique programs that amplified multimedia marketing. Gonzales worked with authors and on titles that include: As You Wish, by Cary Elwes; I Suck at Relationships So You Don’t Have To, by Bethenny Frankel; The End of Illness and A Short Guide to a Long Life, by David B. Agus, MD, Proof of Heaven, by Eben Alexander, Week in a Day, by Rachael Ray, and others.
Prior to S&S, Gonzales was marketing and publicity director at Hay House, where she oversaw 15 web properties (e-commerce, author, blogger, and content verticals), email campaigns, and the programming of unique online assets — Hay House Radio, live online events, and live streaming of large-scale conferences. While at Hay House, Gonzales also launched the self-publishing division Balboa Press with Author Solutions, developed the Hay House Booknook blogger program, and launched social media platforms for author and publishing brands. Gonzales also worked with such best-selling authors as Wayne Dyer, Kris Carr, Louise Hay, Leeza Gibbons, and Marianne Williamson, among many others.
Gonzales holds a BS in Communication and Media Studies from Boston University. She lives in Manhattan, where she is based in Rodale Inc.’s New York office.
