Stress and the city? Some premiere American destinations boost high suicide and depression rates.
Some of the most stressful places to live in the country might surprise you because they are often considered sunny vacation spots.
Considering factors associated with stress—including divorce, crime, suicide rates, unemployment, alcohol use, long commutes, poor sleep, and depression—researchers at Sperling's BestPlaces, a firm specializing in livability rankings, discovered that five of the top 10 stress-laden metro areas in the country can be found in Florida. In fact, Tampa earned the "Most Stressful City" title. Florida's high stress status can be partially blamed on the state's boom-and-bust real estate market, researchers said.

3. Miami
4. Jacksonville
5. Detroit
6. Orlando
7. Riverside, California
8. Sacramento
9. Seattle

On the flip side, metro areas like Minneapolis; Long Island; Cambridge; Orange County, Calif.; San Jose, Calif.; Washington, D.C.; Pittsburgh; Cleveland; Dallas; and Virginia Beach land on the least stressful list.
