Bicycling Magazine Debuts First-Ever iPad “Buyer’s Guide”

– Showcases 130+ Bikes in Virtually Every Category, Including 360° Interactive Images
– April Tablet Edition Gives Bike Shoppers More Options Than Ever –

New York, NY and Emmaus, PA (March 1, 2012) – Rodale Inc.’s Bicycling magazine announced today its first-ever iPad edition of the annual “Buyer’s Guide,” a comprehensive, highly interactive look at the very best new bicycles for 2012. The digital April issue, designed exclusively for the iPad, is available now for $5.99 in the Apple app store, and free for print subscribers.

With rising gas prices and a mild winter providing added incentive for Americans to saddle up and ride, Bicycling’s iPad Buyer’s Guide gives bike shoppers more options than ever, showcasing expert reviews of 137 bikes – 65 more than the April print issue. Cyclists of all ability and budget levels will find something to fit their needs, including bikes for urban/commuter needs, entry-level riders, women, triathlon racers, mountain and race bikes. Cost for bikes that made the list range from $500 for the Breezer Uptown city bike all the way up to $15,000 for a dream bike like the Pinarello Dogma 2.

In addition to the expanded content, select bikes in each category are displayed via an interactive, 360-degree image, offering an unprecedented level of detail. On these bikes, readers can zoom in or out and pan to see every wheel, pedal and frame from any angle. Readers will also see an additional, entire bike category not available in print: triathlon and time-trial bikes.

Each bike category – 12 in total – also has accompanying reviews of the best new gear and apparel in that category, displayed with larger photos and more detail in the iPad. The reviews range from sunglasses and shoes to jerseys and backpacks. Special features in the issue include a roundup of the most stylish helmets on the market, the best shorts and pants for cycling, and a visual look at the art of carbon bike fame repair, a service that can save some cyclists thousands of dollars.
