Ardath Rodale Named Chief Inspiration Officer
Emmaus, PA, June 18, 2007 — Rodale Inc. announced today the election of Maria Rodale as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Ms. Rodale succeeds Ardath Rodale, who will remain a member of the Board and assume the new title of Chief Inspiration Officer.
“With Rodale so strongly positioned for the future, I have decided this was the right time for me and for the Company to make this transition. I have full confidence in Maria’s leadership, and she will have the continued support and counsel from our Board and family,” said Ardath Rodale. “I have always believed that Rodale’s overriding goal was to inspire people to improve their lives and the world around them. I am delighted to assume my new role as Chief Inspiration Officer to enable me to further champion this important mission.”
“We are all enormously grateful for Ardie’s stewardship of the Company over the past 17 years,” said Maria Rodale. “We are all also very pleased that Ardie will remain on the Board and continue to share her wisdom with us. Because we share so many of the same values and the same commitment to the Company, this will be a seamless transition.”
In addition to Ardath’s new role as Chief Inspiration Officer, Ardath will continue to write her monthly “Reflections” column for Prevention Magazine and serve as Co-Chairman of the Board of The Rodale Institute. Furthermore, in August, she will begin a book tour for her collection of stories called Everyday Miracles.
Maria Rodale joined her family’s business in 1987, first working in circulation and direct marketing and eventually overseeing Rodale’s in-house direct marketing agency. In 1998, she served as director of strategy, where she led the strategic review, planning processes, and management changes that refocused the company on publishing information on healthy, active lifestyles. She also assumed editorial responsibilities over Organic Gardening and Organic Style magazines. In 1991, she joined Rodale’s Board of Directors and has served as Vice-Chairman since 1999. For the past decade, Maria has focused her efforts on long-term strategic issues. She has worked closely with Steve Murphy, whom she recruited in 2000 as President of the Company to help drive the business to the success it has enjoyed for the past seven years. Maria is married with three children.
“Rodale has never been stronger. The management team’s successful transformation of the Company from a print business to a multi-platform media enterprise, its transition to a brand-centric strategy, and its international expansion, position Rodale well for long-term growth,” continued Maria Rodale. “I look forward to continuing to work with Ardie, our top management team, other members of the Rodale family, and the Board. Of course, I especially look forward to working with our wonderful employees to keep Rodale on its current path of success.”
