Rodale Inc. Names Michael Lafavore Editorial Director

Rodale Inc. today announced that Michael Lafavore is returning to the company in a new role as Editorial Director, reporting to Rodale President Scott Schulman.

As Editorial Director, Lafavore will focus initially on Men’s Health, the world’s largest men’s lifestyle brand, while also providing input and guidance to other Rodale brands. He will work closely with Men’s Health Editor-in-Chief Bill Phillips and VP/Publisher Ronan Gardiner to maximize growth opportunities for the world’s largest men’s magazine brand across all platforms.

During his tenure as editor-in-chief of Men’s Health (1988-2000), circulation grew from 100,000 to more than 1.5 million (now 1.8 million); he increased the publishing frequency from four to 10 times a year; and he helped launch the company’s first international editions in the UK, France, Germany, Australia, South Africa, Mexico and Russia.

Most recently, Lafavore was editorial director of Maxim and earlier held the same title at Meredith Publishing, overseeing magazines with a combined paid circulation of more than 14 million. He has also served as editor-in-chief of TV Guide and TVGuide.com, where he helped increase magazine renewals and online traffic and commerce.

As an editorial consultant, he has worked with a number of magazines and publishers, including National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, Maxim, Popular Mechanics, The Sporting News, Car & Driver, Elle, Western Interiors & Design, and Hearst, Dennis Publishing UK, and Wenner Media.

His appointment is effective October 1 and he will be based in the company’s Emmaus, PA, office.
