Laura Petasnick Promoted To Publisher, Prevention
Emmaus, PA and New York, September 29, 2010— Rodale Inc. today announced that Mary Murcko has been promoted to EVP, Group Publisher, effective immediately. Murcko will now lead all print and digital advertising sales and marketing efforts, and will assume full P&L responsibility across Rodale’s magazines. Jack Essig, SVP/Publishing Director, Men’s Health/Women’s Health, and Chris Lambiase, VP/Publisher, Runner’s World, Running Times, Bicycling, and Mountain Bike, will now report to Murcko, as will Laura Petasnick, who has been promoted to Publisher, Prevention, effective immediately.

Throughout her six years at Rodale, Murcko has achieved success increasing advertising revenue and brand awareness across multiple Rodale brands including Prevention, Organic Gardening, Women’s Health, and Best Life. Under her watch, Prevention grew 11% in ad pages through the September issue and 10% in market share while Organic Gardening is up 8% in advertising pages and OrganicGardening.com’s online revenue more than doubled from 2009 to 2010. While Murcko was at the helm of Women’s Health, the magazine was one of the fastest growing in the industry, with a 12% increase in advertising pages from 2007-2008 alone. In 2008, the magazine was #2 on Advertising Age’s “A-List” and #1 on Adweek’s annual “10 Under 50 Hot List.” In that same year, Media Industry Newsletter named her a “Sales Team Leader of the Year.” She was also named one of Advertising Age’s “Women to Watch” in June 2009. And previously, as the launch publisher of Best Life, Murcko opened the door for Rodale into the luxury market.

Under Petasnick’s leadership, the Prevention sales team has secured 99 new advertisers in the past year alone, and has grown in several categories including beauty, retail, DTC, and OTC. Prior to joining Prevention, Petasnick was the Advertising Director at Condé Nast’s Vogue. Prior to her post at Vogue, Petasnick spent eight years at Time Inc., most recently as Vice President, Corporate Sales, where she spearheaded the corporate accounts in the beauty and fashion categories. She was also previously the Executive Director, Fashion & Beauty Advertising at Real Simple and was a vital part of the Real Simple launch team.
