New York, July 8, 2011 – Rodale Inc. today announced that Ronan Gardiner has been promoted to Publisher, Men’s Health magazine, effective immediately. In his new role, Gardiner will lead print and digital advertising sales and marketing efforts across the brand. He will report directly to Rodale EVP, Group Publisher, Mary Murcko.

“Ronan is a rising industry star with impressive digital expertise and business savvy,” said Murcko. “He has a genuine and infectious enthusiasm for the brand that will serve him very well as he builds upon the continued growth of the world’s largest men’s title.”

Gardiner has played an integral role in the business success of Men’s Health across print, digital and mobile platforms, including Gatorade’s recent presenting sponsorship of the Men’s Health Urbanathlon, a multiplatform deal that includes print, digital, mobile apps, live Q&A’s, and sponsorship of three signature events across the nation.

His digital expertise has helped the brand’s strong ad performance in the first half of 2011 (according to PIB), as Men’s Health posted 4.4 percent gains in ad paging and 6.1 percent gains in revenue versus the same period in 2010. The brand is also seeing significant digital advertising growth, posting a 25 percent increase in revenue for the same period this year. The success across platforms builds upon what has already been a stellar year for the brand, which earned a coveted National Magazine Award (its third) for Personal Service.

Gardiner joined Rodale as the Advertising Director of Men’s Health in 2005, quickly ascended to Associate Publisher of Men’s Health, and was again promoted to Associate Vice President and Associate Publisher of the brand in 2009. He joined Rodale after serving for three years as Advertising Director at Wenner Media’s Men’s Journal, and prior to that served as the Executive Director of Travel and Automotive for Condé Nast’s Gourmet magazine.

Originally from the United Kingdom, Gardiner has lived in New York for more than 10 years. He relocated to the U.S. from Hong Kong, where he led the operations of media representation companies Matthews & Associates and Clinch Leece Advertising Sales for the Asia-Pacific region. An avid soccer player who loves to travel, Gardiner is an accomplished triathlete who has also completed Men’s Health‘s Urbanathlon every year since its inception.

Rodale will be hiring a dedicated Publisher for the Women’s Health brand, also reporting to Mary Murcko.
