Rodale’s MaryAnn Bekkedahl Named AdweekMedia‘s Publishing Eexecutive of the Year

Emmaus, PA and New York, NY, March 23, 2009 – Rodale Inc. today announced that MaryAnn Bekkedahl, EVP, Group Publisher, has been named AdweekMedia magazine’s Publishing Executive of the Year. Women’s Health and Men’s Health earned the #4 and #7 spots, respectively, on AdweekMedia‘s annual Hot List, and Bicycling earned the #10 spot on AdweekMedia‘s “10 Under 60” Hot List.

Bekkedahl, who joined Rodale in 1994, is responsible for the advertising sales and trade marketing efforts as they relate to all Rodale print and digital properties including Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Prevention, Runner’s World, Bicycling, Mountain Bike, Organic Gardening, Running Times, and their respective Web sites. She also oversees the company’s integrated marketing programs, corporate ad sales, events, and custom publishing.

At #4 on AdweekMedia‘s Hot List, Women’s Health finished 2008 up 12% in advertising pages, marking the ninth highest percent increase of all magazines. Subscriptions finished the year up 42% and single-copy sales increased by 10% over 2007. AdweekMedia noted that the brand “pulls off no small feat in adapting Men’s Health‘s irreverent voice to a female audience.”

AdweekMedia cited the ability of Men’s Health, #7 on the Hot List, to connect with readers even as the economy wavered, calling it a “behemoth” in its category. The magazine scored one of its bestselling issues ever in January/February 2008, despite a cover price increase.

Bicycling earned the #10 spot on the “10 Under 60 List” for magazines with under $60 million in advertising revenues. Cited for its “smart integrated ad packages and a strong Web site” as well as a “passionate, affluent” audience, the brand added 54 new advertising accounts in 2008 and saw a 3.6% increase in circulation over 2007. This marks the fourth year in a row that Bicycling has earned a spot on the list.
